Turkish giants Galatasaray could be interested in making a move for Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck once the striker’s current deal runs out in the summer, according to the Mirror.

The 28-year-old is sidelined with a serious ankle injury suffered against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, and will miss the rest of the season.

It is understood that he will not be offered a new contract, and is unlikely to play for the Gunners again.

The Turkish champions were reportedly interested in bringing Welbeck in over the summer, who are looking to reinforce their strike force after failing to bring in a replacement for Bafetimbi Gomis.

Good move for Welbeck?

Danny Welbeck has been desperately unlucky with regards to injuries during his career. He is clearly a player of immense talent, who has proven his goalscoring credentials at two of England’s biggest clubs, as well as the national side, but has never really been able to build up any kind of momentum, especially in recent years. A fresh start in a new country could be just what he needs. It’s becoming increasingly common for English players to ply their trade elsewhere, and it cannily be a good thing for both the individual and the national side. If Welbeck can make a go of it in Turkey, maybe he can recapture his peak form while he’s still in his prime.

Likely to happen?

In truth, a move to Turkey might be a stretch for a player who played for his boyhood club until 2014, but with the recent explosion of English talent making the move to the continent, this kid of deal looks a lot more likely than it would have this time even a year ago. Realistically, if he can get fit and firing then there will be no shortage of suitors if and when he leaves the Emirates. It would be expected that the he stayed in England, but if the forward believes that he needs a change of scene to rekindle his lost spark, then Galatasaray could be top of his destination list.
