It’s like Jose Mourinho wants to be sacked. The Manchester United manager would get a big pay-day if that happened, so that’s the only reason why he would think to start Nemanja Matic in the centre of defence when he has Marcos Rojo sat on the bench. Matic’s form has been pretty poor all season anyway so telling him to play outside of his natural position is not going to change things. The former Chelsea midfielder had a torrid time against Southampton – a team who should not be getting anywhere near Man United. But with players like Matic in the side playing out of position, it’s a recipe for disaster and the Saints were bound to score in their 2-2 draw at St Mary’s on Saturday evening. You can understand the frustrations of Man United fans. Their young supporters won’t have seen the club in such a state in their entire lifetimes. David Moyes would have done better than this.
