Gary Lineker has pointed out that Mauricio Pochettino has become the first Tottenham manager to win 100 Premier League games after the 1-0 win against Burnley at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs had to wait until Christian Eriksen scored in stoppage time to bag all three points, but the victory means that Pochettino has now reached 100 top-flight wins in England in fewer games than Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

“Just interviewed Mauricio Pochettino after he became the first Spurs coach to win 100 Premier League games. He reached that milestone in his 169th game in charge, 10 games fewer than it took Arsene Wenger at Arsenal,” said Lineker via his personal Twitter account on Saturday.

Tottenham stay third in the Premier League table after beating Burnley and are now three points behind second-placed Liverpool, who play against Manchester United on Sunday.

OPINION

It really is a remarkable achievement for Pochettino. Arsenal fans will be quick to point out that Wenger actually won titles inside his first 100 wins in the Premier League, but that isn’t the point. The point is that Pochettino has done a fantastic job at Tottenham without as good resources as what Wenger had during Arsenal’s heyday in the 1990s and early 2000s. Just remember where Spurs were before Pochettino took charge and look at them now. They are consistently getting into the knock-out stages of the Champions League and are consistently picking up good results and signing quality young players. Daniel Levy may not have spent anything in the summer but Spurs are still moving into a brand new state of the art stadium and are more than likely going to splash the cash next year. It’s a very exciting time to be a Tottenham fan. They will win something, without doubt, in the next two seasons.
