Mason Holgate has completed a medical with West Brom and is now on the verge of heading to The Hawthorns on loan, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Everton defender will join the Baggies until the end of the season as Darren Moore eyes reinforcements in the January transfer window.

It is understood that Marco Silva has given the go-ahead for Holgate to leave Goodison Park on a temporary basis so that he can earn much-needed first-team experience.

Good move for West Brom?

Holgate is naturally a centre-back, but he can also play at right-back, which is a position that West Brom need to sort out in January.

While it is not ideal to sign someone who isn’t natural in that position, Holgate will be an upgrade on Tosin Adarabioyo and Tyrone Mears, whose short-term deal at The Hawthorns expires next month.

Albion have conceded too many goals this season, so hopefully a player with Premier League experience like Holgate can help the Championship promotion hopefuls shut out their opponents on a more regular basis.

Likely to happen?

Now that Holgate has completed his medical, it’s safe to say that the defender’s move to West Brom is almost completed.

Once the transfer window opens on January 1, Albion look as though they will have themselves a new addition.
