Leeds United and Fleetwood Town are in the process of finalising an extended loan agreement for Lewie Coyle, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that Coyle, 23, is due to return to Elland Road later this week, however he has played in all but one of Fleetwood’s League One games this season and manager Joey Barton is eager to extend his stay until the end of the campaign.

It is understood that the full-back has no place in Marcelo Bielsa’s current plans despite his side being ravaged by injuries this term.

Good move for Leeds?

Coyle’s future at Elland Road doesn’t look great if Bielsa cannot find a place for him in his side even though there have been a lot of injuries this season.

Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi and Stuart Dallas have all played at right-back this season and all of them have had long-term injury issues, with Ayling only recently returning from his own lengthy lay-off.

Other than to preserve his transfer value, there is no reason why Bielsa should be letting Coyle spend the rest of the season on loan at Fleetwood.

He has played well in League One and if injuries are an issue in the second-half of the season then Bielsa could really regret not having Coyle available to him.

Likely to happen?

It certainly seems that it will.

Coyle spent all of last season on loan at Highbury and has become a real crowd-pleaser there.

Barton is obviously a fan of the full-back too and if Bielsa sees no place for him in his plans, then it looks as though his loan will be extended this week.
