Clint Hill has heaped praise on Rangers after they finally won an Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox with a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Jack’s deflected first-half effort was enough to seal all three points for the Light Blues and send them level on points with their bitter Glasgow rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Hill, who became a favourite of the Rangers fans during his one season at Ibrox, urged the supporters to make the most of the derby victory via his personal Twitter account after the game.

“What a result and performance. Enjoy your night Teddy Bears, you deserve it,” the former Rangers centre-back said.

OPINION

It is such a shame that the winter break has now started because we cannot wait for the next time that Rangers take to the field in their bid to stop Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title this season. Brendan Rodgers’ side are in pole position right now due to the fact that they have a better goal difference and have a game in hand, but the Gers are hot on their heels and have shown on Saturday that they can win against their bitter rivals. Steven Gerrard will be thrilled with how his players played against Celtic this weekend. Not a single player in blue had a bad game, with goalkeeper Allan McGregor basically a spectator in the Gers goal. Jack, Scott Arfield and Ross McCrorie dominated the midfield and made Scott Brown look like a Scottish League Two player he was that bad. Andy Halliday was the star of the day though. He made one of the blocks of the season to stop Olivier Ntcham from equalising late on to cap off what was a superb display by the left-back.
