Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani sent a tweet out on Thursday evening praising Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts, who were helping a homeless charity in Leeds.

The  two Leeds players were helping out Streetwise, who provide for the homeless from a local church.

Radrizzani said, “You guys make me so proud” after BBC journalist Adam Pope reported on what they were doing.

Pope quoted Phillips as saying, “It’s a good thing to do. It’s nice to make them feel like they have a little family here.”

OPINION

There’s something really good happening at Leeds at the moment and it goes way beyond the football on the pitch. There have been lots of stories about the manager Marcelo Bielsa, and it feels like his influence is spreading in a really holistic way. It was reported that he regularly gets the Leeds players picking up litter because it’s good to remind them to be humble. And Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts are an absolute credit to the team for helping the unfortunate at this time of year. It’s good to highlight that not all footballers are only focused on playing and the trappings of wealth that come with the modern game. Off the pitch there’s a lot of poverty in Leeds, as there is in any major city in the UK. Highlighting work like this from the Leeds players will hopefully inspire other footballers to do the same and prove that the game can be a real force for good. Of course, good things are happening on the pitch too. Leeds are top of the league and looking forward to a cracking game against promotion rivals Aston Villa on Sunday. Three points would be a very welcome Christmas present.
