Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has admitted that defender Michael Dawson’s injury could be a problem for the team moving forward.

The veteran centre half came off during Forest’s 2-0 victory over struggling Ipswich Town on Saturday, and Karanka is concerned by the setback.

“I do not know how serious it is. It might be a hamstring problem, but we do not know how bad it is,” he told the Nottingham Post.

“If it is serious; if he is out for more than a week or two, it will be a problem. But today Jack Robinson moved into the centre and we have other players to play,” he finished.

OPINION

This is a bit of a concern for Forest. Karanka’s side aren’t overly blessed with central defenders in his current squad so he will be hoping that Dawson’s injury isn’t anything too serious. If he does face an extended period of time on the sidelines then it could mean someone playing out of position or perhaps a foray into the January transfer window for the former Middlesbrough boss. Dawson has made a big impact both on and off the field for Forest since he returned to the club this summer and Karanka will be loathe to lose him. However, we do not know the severity of the setback as of yet so there’s no point getting too worked up about it at this stage. Forest have been climbing the table quickly in recent weeks and it’s no surprise that that has coincided with Dawson’s introduction into the team. He is a comforting presence at the back for Forest and they’ll be hoping that he doesn’t miss much, if any, game time.
