Leeds United will receive a £450,000 loan fee from Getafe after attacking midfielder Samu Saiz sealed a switch to the La Liga club, according to journalist James Marshment.

Marshment, who is editor at TEAMtalk and an avid Leeds fan, claimed on his personal Twitter account that Getafe have in fact paid an upfront fee for Saiz, with reports previously suggesting no loan fee was to be paid.

It is also reported by Marshment that the deal will definitely become permanent in the summer, with other outlets seemingly unsure of whether a such a deal was certain.

Leeds confirmed the deal on their official website on Monday evening, with Saiz to travel to Spain for medical this week.

OPINION

The news that Leeds will receive a loan fee for Saiz is positive, but is unlikely to appease many fans, who will be looking for answers on why the club have been so receptive to an exit for the playmaker. Obviously Saiz was keen on securing a return to Spain after failing to settle in England, but that does not mean that the club should have just opened the door for his exit as quickly as they seemed to. Clubs keep unsettled players around all the time, and manage to avoid any negative effects such a move may have in the process. Leeds instead seem to have accepted the situation far too readily, and will now watch one of their most-talented players walk away for a paltry fee in January. In current conversions, including the loan fee, Leeds will be receiving just £6.2million for Saiz. This is a profit on the fee they paid for the Spaniard, but does not reflect his true value. Fans will not be happy with the way in which the club have let their star leave, and this update does little to help that despite it being a positive one.
