Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has gushed about Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn, labelling him as “superb”.

McGinn made the move to Villa Park in the summer transfer window from Scottish club Hibernian, and has been a regular in the first team ever since, and Hendrie remarked on how he loved the 24-year-old’s ability on the ball.

He says that 5ft 10in [Transfermarkt] ace is no afraid to get stuck into tackles during matches, and added that he has taken complete ownership of the midfield spot within the team.

“He’s superb. I just love how his energy around the midfield, I love how he gets himself into tackles, he’s not shy of anything,” Hendrie said on Sky Sports’ coverage of the match against West Brom [7/12].

“He’s come in and really took that midfield spot as if it’s his own, and the one thing I will say is he really helps Jack [Grealish]. He’s got a sweet left foot and he can pick a pass.”

OPINION

Hendrie is right – McGinn is superb, and at the age of only 24-years-old, he has taken the Championship by storm. Nobody would have thought that he would have made the impact that he has made on the team when he arrived – but he has shown that he is arguably one of Villa’s signings of the summer. He may go under the radar sometimes, but the contribution he provides the team is invaluable, and his link-up play with Grealish is really quite something. Like Grealish, McGinn will be crucial to Villa’s promotion hopes – with them two in the team, it is rather hard not to see them achieve their aim. They are both at Premier League standard and will have no trouble adapting should they get there – so fingers crossed that they do. They are too good to be playing in the Championship for much longer, and there is no doubt that they would take the top-flight by storm.
