OPINION

Alan Hutton came back into the Aston Villa side against West Brom after missing the game against Middlesbrough through suspension, but many fans weren’t happy with the 34-year-old’s display in the 2-2 draw.

To be fair he started off really brightly and, let’s not forget, he was up against one of the best right-sided attackers in the Championship in Harvey Barnes.

However, he was at fault for the equalising goal after Villa had gone in front.

The ball was sprayed forward and Hutton got into a tangle before Barnes stole the ball off him and put in an inch-perfect pass for Dwight Gayle who just doesn’t miss those chances.

The opening Villa goal was contested, somewhat confusingly by Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed Hegazy, with the home defender eventually being credited with an own goal.

There was no disputing Villa’s second from El Ghazi though, an absolute rip-snorter of a goal after 15 minutes of the second half.

By that point in the game Hutton had switched over to left-back after an injury to Neil Taylor.

And fans were relieved that he had been moved to the opposite flank from Barnes.

We actually think he had an okay game but there were plenty of Villa fans who dsiagreed with us and took to Twitter to make their point.

Here are the best reactions from Villa fans at The Hawthorns on Friday night:

Not every Villa fan was on his back though. Hutton had his supporters on Twitter, not as many admittedly, but they were there.

And this fan summed up what many of them were saying:
