Ross McCormack will return to Aston Villa to see a specialist about a knee injury he has sustained on loan at Central Coast Mariners.

Mike Mulvey, Central Coast manager, has confirmed that McCormack, 32, will fly halfway around the world in order to get himself back to full fitness before the end of the year.

“We’ve decided to send Ross back to Aston Villa to check in with a specialist. We expect him back just before Christmas and the best situation we can see at this stage would be having Ross eligible for selection for our New Year’s Eve game against Perth Glory,” Mulvey said, as quoted on the Mariners’ official website.

McCormack is one a year-long loan with Central Coast Mariners but has only made five appearances for them since sealing his return to Australia in September.

OPINION

It really is one problem after another with McCormack. Aston Villa’s hierarchy probably cannot wait for the day that McCormack finally leaves Villa Park for good because he has been nothing but a burden since he was signed in 2016. He is earning £40,000-a-week (TeamTalk) and has made just 24 appearances across all competitions for the West Midlands club because of the infamous electric gate incident with Steve Bruce and several loan spells since. McCormack is now proving to be a burden in the Southern Hemisphere as well. Central Coast will probably be paying quite a bit for the Scottish forward, but he has only given them one goal in five A-League outings. McCormack was much more prolific at Melbourne City last year in that loan spell. Mulvey and Central Coast Mariners will be hoping that the former Leeds and Fulham star rediscovers that form once he recovers from his knee injury.
