OPINION
Anwar El Ghazi has been blowing hot and cold all season for Aston Villa, and in his side’s 1-1 draw at Preston on Saturday, it was the latter. A section of Villa fans have torn into the 23-year-old winger for his performance at Deepdale, which is no surprise considering he had a bit of a stinker. The two-times Netherlands international has been a bit off the boil since he scored a brace against West Brom at The Hawthorns, and this display against Preston means that Dean Smith should have a good think about dropping him for the game against QPR on New Year’s Day next week. Villa have other options to play in the attack and with the January transfer window about to open, Smith has the chance to upgrade his current options. El Ghazi, unfortunately, hasn’t been impressive on a consistent enough basis to be able to warrant an extended stay in Smith’s starting line-up.
