OPINION

Many Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to slam Jon Flanagan for his display in the first half against Villareal in the Europa League on Thursday night, and their reaction is hardly surprising. Flanagan was reunited with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard at Ibrox in the summer and was welcomed as a quality signing for the Gers, but is yet to really live up to those expectations. The 25-year-old has been disappointing on the whole so far this term for the Light Blues, and his first-half display against the La Liga side showed no signs of that changing. Admittedly the former Liverpool ace has been forced to play out of position for much of the season at left-back, but his performances are a shadow of those he used to put in week in, week out when emerging as a young talent at Anfield. These Rangers fans below are obviously pretty unimpressed by Flanagan’s display in that first 45 minutes, and some vast improvement is needed from the defender in the second period.
