Tottenham have tabled an offer to the representatives of Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron, according to El Intransigente.

The Argentine news outlet claims that Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle have also approached the Paraguay international’s agent about potentially signing him, however surprisingly, it is the Magpies who appear to be in pole position for his signature at this stage.

It is understood that the 24-year-old attacking midfielder earns £30,000-a-week on his deal with Atlanta, who would want £23.5million in order to agree a transfer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Almiron has enjoyed a blistering 2018 season in the MLS, scoring 13 goals and supplying 13 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Atalnta.

The Paraguayan is an attacking midfielder who likes to play in behind the striker but can also play out wide or up front.

He is a joy to watch at times and Spurs would do well to sign him, however Mauricio Pochettino needs to look at signing midfielders who are a bit more reserved than the MLS star as he has an abundance of players like him already in North London.

Likely to happen?

According to this report, Newcastle are winning the race for Almiron’s signature as it looks as though he would rather join them or West Ham in a bid to earn more playing time.

That’s fair enough because at Spurs, Almiron would be a bit-part player until he is able to prove he is Premier League quality.

Don’t expect him to head to Tottenham at any point in 2019.
