Tottenham and Arsenal have stepped forward in the hunt to sign Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen, according to Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Nicolo Shira.

The Italian reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Monday night that Sampdoria are auctioning off the 22-year-old Dane and club chairman Massimo Ferrero wants around £26.7million for the 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus.

It is understood that Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in signing Andersen, who joined Sampdoria from FC Twente last year.

Good move for Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino is going to need to add to the centre of his defence at some point next year, especially as it looks as though Toby Alderweireld may be leaving the North London club.

Andersen is a good defender but is he good enough to play for a top Premier League team?

Judging by the teams interested in signing him, yes. Spurs have done extremely well with their centre-back signings in recent years and Pochettino will be trusted to get this one right.

It could cost the club a lot of money but Andersen has been impressing in Serie A and it looks as though he is ready to step up for one of the bigger teams.

Likely to happen?

It seems like Andersen is attracting a lot of interest and that could be an issue for Tottenham, who will not pay over the odds thanks to Daniel Levy’s strict control on finances at the club.

Arsenal, Juve and Inter are probably more likely to spend big on the Sampdoria star, so at the moment you have to say that those three are more likely that Spurs to sign him.
