A section of Celtic fans have been reacting on Twitter after Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam revealed that he would be open to returning to Rangers on a loan deal in January.

The Daily Record has reported that the Gers would be in pole position to sign Adam, 32, if they wanted to re-sign him, however the admission about his availability could arouse interest from across the Scottish Premiership.

He said:  “A loan is something I would look at. I will discuss it when it’s closer to the time but I want to play – and Scotland is, hopefully, an option.”

Some Celtic fans have found the transfer news hilarious, with one saying it would be “tremendous” to see Adam back at Ibrox, presumably because he does not rate him very highly.

COMMENTARY:

It is not hard to see why these Celtic fans find it hilarious that Adam wants to return to Rangers, it’s because the midfielder is utterly hopeless and nowhere near good enough for one of the Scottish Premiership’s top sides. Adam may well want to play for the Gers again to link up with his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard, but the chances of the Glasgow club wanting to sign him up are going to be pretty low. It’s not the first time that the Scottish midfielder has declared his interest in going back to Ibrox and it probably won’t be the last, but as long as he is still playing, he is going to be linked with the Gers. Celtic have no need to be worried if the Light Blues do sign the Stoke midfielder. Four or five years ago yes, he would have been a solid player for most top-flight teams in Scotland but now he would probably struggle at a team near the bottom end. It wouldn’t be a shock to see someone in Scotland go after him in January, it just won’t be someone from Glasgow.
