COMMENTARY

There are few fans as passionate as Rangers supporters when it comes to their players – and that even includes the men who are not even at Ibrox for the current campaign.

The summer saw plenty of comings and goings at the Light Blues, with one man making an exit – albeit a temporary one – coming in the shape of Greg Docherty.

Having made 39 appearances for the Gers last season he was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Steven Gerrard but was still good enough to be given a chance of a future in Light Blue, with a loan spell at English League One side Shrewsbury awaiting him.

He might have gone under the radar at times, but he fired himself back into the limelight with a stunning strike against Salford City in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, and it reignited the Rangers’ supporters into urging their side into calling him back from his loan spell early on Twitter.

Having proven to be worthy of a place in the Gers’ line up last season, a campaign away from Ibrox, where he is picking up regular game time, means he will be fit and ready to fight for a place when he does eventually return – but should that be as soon as the first month of new year?

Simply put, he is better off continuing with Shrewsbury and returning in summer – when his loan contract ends – than trying to overhaul Scott Arfield, Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Jack, among the other midfield options.

Still, that has not stopped supporters urging it on social media, and This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets:
