Former Celtic star and broadcast pundit Chris Sutton had five words for hat trick hero James Forrest after his treble helped Scotland defeat Israel 3-2 at Hampden Park and seal promotion to League B in the Nations League on Tuesday night.

The Hoops winger continued his dazzling form for his country after scoring his first international goals recently, and fired home three times, twice in the first half, as the Scots came from behind to defeat their rivals and top their group of the inaugural Nations League competition.

Turning to Twitter to give his insta-verdict on the clash, Sutton suggested Alex McLeish might have turned some opinions round, which gave five words to Forrest for his goal scoring exploits.

He said: “Never straightforward but Alex Mcleish may have just won a few fans over tonight… well done to him and Scotland and very very very well done James Forrest.”

Opinion

Is that all you have got Chris? Forrest was absolutely immense for his country and “very very very well done” is something of an understatement when you consider his performance. Without the Celtic man the Scots would have been waving goodbye to their promotion chances, and while a statue for his efforts would be a step too far, there certainly needs to be some serious recognition for just how classy a player the Scottish national team have on their books. Now Sutton and the rest of the Celtic Park faithful will be hoping he can take this astounding form and convert it on the domestic stage, for if he can replicate these sort of performances then their rivals may as well give up any hope of toppling the Hoops at the top of the table. Forrest has always been important for the Bhoys but this season he is taking it up a gear for club and country. Will he be the man to fire them to another domestic treble? Only time will tell – but he will be riding high after becoming Scotland’s hero this international break. Premiership rivals – beware.
