Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed his “frustration” this season which has led to him not seeing eye to eye with the board at Parkhead at times.

The Hoops made a slow start both domestically and on the European front this campaign, finding themselves knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers while losing two of their opening six league games as they look to retain their Premiership title.

Speaking about how that impacted his relationship with those at the top of the club, Rodgers insisted that there was great respect between them but that there was natural disagreements too.

He told Sky Sports: “There was a natural frustration there (at the start of the season). Of course as the manager and leader of the team on the field you want to take the team, continue pushing them forward.

“My relationship with the board – when you work so closely together it’s only human that you won’t always agree. That’s natural whether that’s in your social life or work life, when you’re working with humans you’re not always going to be in agreement even though we’d love to say we would be.”

Opinion

Revealing his working relationship with the board is a rare sight from Rodgers, who usually likes to keep things reserved when it comes to behind the scenes dealings. As he says, it is natural that those in charge of decision making at Parkhead have some disagreements but is he underplaying just how many things have been argued about? There was plenty of speculation that Rodgers was unhappy with the lack of spending in the summer and it seems as though that could well be one of the sources of his frustration. Has that relationship been mended? It certainly appears as though Rodgers is a happier man than he was earlier on in the campaign and it might be that the board have taken action to try and deal with whatever problems the individual parties have. Things are looking back on the up for the Hoops now and there will be the hope they can push on for yet more glory this season.
