Celtic winger James Forrest produced one of the finest performances of his career on Saturday as he led Scotland to a 4-1 victory over Albania.

The 27-year-old was superb on Saturday, scoring twice in the second half to secure the Nations League win for Alex McLeish’s side.

His second goal, in particular, was out of this world. He is in fine form at the moment, and his Scotland showing merely underlined his importance to his club side.

When Forrest is playing like this he is undroppable for Brendan Rodgers. There is no way that the Northern Irishman can remove the Scotsman from his starting line up when he is producing such inspired football at present.

Forrest has developed into one of the most important players at Parkhead in recent years. His pace and incisiveness on the right hand side is vital to the success of this Hoops side.

He’s someone with underrated technical ability, too. His second goal on Saturday was a marvellous feat of technical quality.

He flicked the ball up to himself before rifling a thunderous left footed volley past Albania’s goalkeeper Etrit Berisha.

If one of the world’s leading players scored that goal we’d be talking about it for weeks. Forrest has the ability to do that, and the next challenge for him is to start finding the back of the net on a more regular basis.

One thing’s for sure, though, Forrest is a guaranteed starter at Parkhead when he’s in this form. The winger is red hot, and it would be criminal for Rodgers to abandon him now.
