Harry Redknapp didn’t waste any time to have a dig at Newcastle United on the first episode of this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here on Sunday night as the ex-Tottenham manager joked about the lack of motivation at St James’ Park.

Redknapp, 71, had viewers in stitches when he had a pop at celebrity Newcastle fan Declan Donnelly as the one half of Ant & Dec fired football-esque questions at him ahead of his first challenge.

After being asked whether he has to do much to motivate his team by Dec, Redknapp said on ITV One on Sunday night: “No I think they’re well motivated this lot.

“I mean they’re more motivated than your team Newcastle.”

Redknapp was made to hang out of a car window and won the following challenge.

OPINION

Redknapp is going to be brilliant to watch in the jungle this year. The 71-year-old, who claimed that he had never even seen the show before jetting off to Australia, won his first trial but was shocked by the lack of bacon and sausage sandwiches once he arrived in the camp as the winning team. It was a cheeky dig at Newcastle but Rafa Benitez’s side definitely doesn’t lack any motivation. The Magpies have won their last two matches and sit 14th in the table. The players know that they are on a roll and will be extremely confident going into their trip to Burnley this weekend. Turf Moor is not an easy place to go to but Sean Dyche’s side are not in the best of form. Even though Redknapp claims they lack the self-belief, you have to back the Magpies to get something against the Clarets. After that there’s a tricky run of games against West Ham, Everton and Wolves so a win versus Burnley will go a long way.
