With Leigh Griffiths battling injury this season the attacking load at Parkhead has been firmly on Odsonne Edouard’s shoulders.

The Frenchman, to his credit, has stepped up with 11 goals in 20 games in all competitions, but Brendan Rodgers risks burning out the 20-year-old if he continues using him in each and every Hoops game.

The Northern Irishman doesn’t have much choice at the moment, of course, but that’s something that should’ve been addressed in the summer transfer window. A January move for Hibernian frontman Florian Kamberi, however, would ease the strain on Edouard.

Two senior strikers in a squad is not enough for a team of Celtic’s calibre. When one man is missing, like Griffiths is now, it puts tremendous strain on the remaining attacker.

A move for Kamberi would strengthen the Bhoys’ squad immensely, but it would also weaken Neil Lennon’s side. Celtic have done a good job of monopolising the talent in Scottish football in recent years, and they can continue that trend here.

Kamberi is a tremendous centre forward who has already made a huge impact at Easter Road. He’s hit eight goals in 14 games for Hibs this term, including one against Celtic last month.

In total he has 17 goals in 28 games since joining the club on loan – and then permanently – in January, a phenomenal tally that has surely brought him to Celtic’s attention.

If the Hoops are going to help Edouard out up top then they should do so with the highest quality possible. Kamberi has shown that he is capable of cutting the mustard in Scotland, and his form will not go unnoticed for long.

Edouard will inevitably experience fatigue and loss of form if he continues at the pace he’s been at this campaign. A move for Kamberi would ensure that Celtic aren’t left short changed when that happens.
