Christian Eriksen has admitted that the Tottenham players only know as much as the media does about when the club’s new stadium will be ready to host Premier League football.

Spurs were meant to return to White Hart Lane earlier in the season but it is looking increasingly likely as though Mauricio Pochettino’s men will remain at Wembley until the end of this campaign.

Eriksen is clearly eager to return to Tottenham’s true home and he believes that judging by the images of the stadium, it is going to be a brilliant place to play football.

“We know the same as the people in the press. We don’t really know when it will be finished. Hopefully it will be soon,” said Eriksen, as quoted by the Sun.

“People have seen pictures of the stadium and what it is going to look like — it’s going to be exceptional when we are finally in there.”

OPINION

Tottenham fans must be home-sick by now. It could be months before the new stadium is ready for them to move in and hopefully the continual fixtures at Wembley don’t have an impact on the squad’s results. Pochettino and his players have done an immense job of keeping up their form despite moving to Wembley. Before last season everyone knew about the so-called ‘Wembley curse’ that Spurs had to deal with, but that theory was rubbished and Tottenham barely looked like a team that had no stadium. They have continued their good form this season but there is a growing sense of frustration, especially with the fans, about when they will be able to return to White Hart Lane. Hopefully it won’t be long because everyone, even outside of Tottenham, wants to see this magnificent stadium hosting Premier League and Champions League football. The real worry is that might not happen until the 2019/20 campaign.
