Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo organised a surprise decoration of part of the club’s training ground for the players as part of the major development which took place behind the scenes, according to journalist Tim Spiers.

The Express and Star journalist revealed in a detailed walkthrough of the new facilities at the newly promoted side’s Compton Park training centre that the Portuguese boss had arranged for the warm up room, which includes a head tennis table, to be painted overnight in a Wolves motif with various slogans on the walls to surprise the players.

The development has seen huge changes take place, including investment in the canteen and the introduction of a separate under-23 area for the reserves in order to keep the senior side and those on the fringes apart.

Opinion

There is often the accusation thrown out by dissatisfied supporters that a manager just does not ‘get’ a club, but those at Molineux will certainly not be saying that about Nuno. The Portuguese boss seems to have a real understanding about what it means to be part of the midlands outfit and making a personal decision to inspire the players using Wolves graphics and the likes around the training facilities shows he wants to impart that onto his squad. He knows the importance of identity and wants his side not only to be well drilled tactically and as fit as they come on match day, but to feel a sense of belonging and camaraderie. It is a refreshing thing to see and the fans, while they might not be able to see the training centre first hand, will appreciate the efforts the manager is making at taking the club in the right direction.
