Sky Sports pundit Tony Cascarino has admitted he was blown away by Wolves starlet Morgan Gibbs-White in their loss against Tottenham, describing the 18-year-old as a ‘special talent.’

Gibbs-White was introduced by Nuno Espirito Santo following Tottenham’s third goal, and the teenage talent changed the game for Wolves as they launched a comeback which ultimately fell just short.

Cascarino has however singled out the midfielder for huge praise for his display, even comparing him to one of the stars of the Premier League at the moment.

In a column for The Times, he said: “Morgan Gibbs-White at Wolves looked a special talent against Tottenham. There were two moments that stood out — the pass to Hélder Costa was like something from Kevin De Bruyne, and it is very rare to see an 18-year-old Englishman playing in central midfield and picking a pass like that.

“Then when he shifted and sped past Harry Winks, who is a decent young player himself and no slouch, the only thing Winks could do to stop him was pull him down and take the yellow card. The skill to beat a man was like something we’ve seen from Jack Wilshere but this boy has a burst of pace that Wilshere never had, so the opponent cannot recover.

“There is no mature English player like this, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the closest, so you just hope Gibbs-White develops because he is some prospect.”

OPINION

This is some big praise for Gibbs-White, who blew everyone away with his performance after coming on against Tottenham. The Wolves youngster has always been seen as a huge talent within the club and the England set-up, but this was almost his coming-out party to the rest of the Premier League. The 18-year-old looked at home in midfield for Wolves as he flipped the game on its head with his pinpoint passing and confident play on the ball. As Cascarino points out, the highlight was a wonderful through ball to Helder Costa, which the Portugal international somehow managed to put wide. The way in which the 18-year-old managed to disguise the pass was simply breathtaking, and very much like De Bruyne. Gibbs-White has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season with Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho occupying the midfield, but after a performance like this he will no doubt be given more chances by Nuno in the coming weeks.
