West Ham are set to offer a contract to Samir Nasri following his extended trial, according to a reliable club source.

Speaking on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast, super-reliable Hammers source ExWHUemployee explained that the attacking midfielder has “impressed coaches” with his performances in training.

Nasri is banned from playing until the end of December and it is said the Londoners will make a formal move as soon as the window opens in a bid to seal an early-January deal.

OPINION

Manuel Pellegrini has had an extensive look at Nasri since he undertook a medical earlier this month and it appears the Hammers are well placed to get the deal done if they can agree financial terms with the player. The big question marks are over the fitness and attitude of the former Marseille, Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder, who is currently serving an 18-month ban. West Ham should surely only offer the 31-year-old a short-term deal, which gives Nasri the chance to show what he can do while mitigating the cost, especially if the contract is going to be worth around £80,000-a-week. Even at his peak, the Frenchman was always a little on the porky side and had trouble getting in the lean, mean physical condition that is essential for a modern Premier League player. Nasri could make an impact for West Ham if everything aligns itself. Technically, he is brilliant and should add a new dimension to a team lacking all-round class across the pitch.
