BBC Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has heaped praise on West Ham’s Felipe Anderson after what he called an ‘exceptional’ display against Burnley on Saturday.

West Ham beat Burnley 4-2 in an exciting game, with Anderson scoring twice in the 68th and 84th minutes.

Talking on Match of the Day (BBC, Saturday, 10.30pm) Murphy said, “Anderson was exceptional.

“He’s been building up to this performance. His pace and his skill are phenomenal.

“The whole team played well. He grew in confidence and he had a bit of luck along the way but he was part of a West Ham team who played with great energy.

“He looks fitter now and if he keeps progressing as he is doing… he was the pick of the punch today.”

OPINION

This performance came just at the right time for Anderson. People were starting to question his £34million price tag but he showed why he’s worth every penny of that on Saturday. It was a crucial win for West Ham as well and finally starts to see them moving in the right direction up the table. They’re now in 13th spot and a break into the top-half of the table, surely where they belong with players of this quality, is round the corner. Anderson was man of the match in a very competitive game. Marko Arnautovic was superb as well and even Javier Hernandez got himself on the scoresheet in the 92nd minute. He’s had a torrid time at West Ham but this will give him some confidence too. But it was Anderson who stole the show. He was quite brilliant for the Hammers and he’ll be relishing a trip to Huddersfield next week, a game that manager Manuel Pellegrini will be targeting for another three points.
