Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has praised West Ham United midfielder Felipe Anderson for his performance against Burnley on Saturday.

The Brazilian was superb in the team’s 4-2 victory over Sean Dyche’s side, scoring twice at pivotal moments to help the Hammers to a much needed win.

And Lineker was clearly impressed with the 25-year-old’s display: “Felipe Anderson has restored West Ham United’s lead,” he said on his personal Twitter account. “What a good player he is.”

The former Lazio man has been slightly disappointing in recent weeks, but showed why the club signed him with a dominant display on Saturday.

OPINION

This was, by some distance, Anderson’s finest performance since joining the club, as he ensured there would be no sharing of the spoils at the London Stadium despite Burnley’s spirited display. Anderson was the headline-grabber of West Ham’s transfer business this summer, and he demonstrated his quality with an excellent performance against the Clarets. The Hammers needed to get back to winning ways after failing to taste victory in their last four games in all competitions. This was a massive result for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, as they proved to have too much for Burnley. Anderson was a big part of that and the club’s supporters will be hoping this is a sign of things to come for the mercurial Brazilian. When he’s on top of his game, as Lineker thinks he was on Saturday, Anderson is a joy to watch and a nightmare for opposition defenders. Let’s hope it continues in the coming weeks.
