While Tottenham’s rise to the top-four of the Premier League has been a brilliant sight for the Lilywhite faithful to witness, their success has also been a huge boost to the future of English football as a whole.

While there has been plenty said about foreign talent coming in and diluting the top flight, thus preventing homegrown players from making the step up, Mauricio Pochettino and his men have proven that the Three Lions have some top quality at their disposal.

The likes of Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Kyle Walker all established themselves in the international setup while in north London, and there is now a proud tradition of Spurs providing England with their future stars.

One area where Tottenham have thrived in producing talent for the national side is at full back, with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose having dominated during their time at White Hart Lane before Trippier took the spot from the now-Manchester City man.

So could Spurs replicate their success and dominate on either side of the defence once again?

They absolutely could were they to hijack Manchester City’s reported hunt for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the Mirror claiming the reigning champions have already started making inroads into his capture.

The 20-year-old has been one of the biggest revelations this season with the Eagles, featuring in all but one of their games across all competitions, and his quality makes it easy to see why top-four contenders City are interested.

Tottenham already have plenty of talent at right back – Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier battling it out for a starting role, while 21-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters is in reserve – but it should not stop Pochettino from battling to keep Wan-Bissaka in London in a move which would guarantee domination at national level for years to come.

It is clear that the young Palace man is destined for an England call up and the same could be said about Walker-Peters, who while not having much game time is still highly rated by his country with eight under-21 appearances.

Trippier and Rose occupy England’s full back roles right now and were Spurs to sign Wan-Bissaka, they would have their replacements on hand, learning under the current stalwarts for both club and country.

When it comes to wide defenders, Spurs have dominated English football for some time – and they can continue to do so by hijacking Manchester City’s hunt.
