Tottenham are right to reject the chance to re-sign Gareth Bale.

For, that is what chairman Daniel Levy has done on behalf of the north London club.

Spanish outlet Diario claim Real Madrid have offered the Wales international to Spurs, but that Levy’s response amounted to three words.

“Bale? No thanks,” the long-standing Spurs chief is said to have replied.

Smart move, Daniel. Sure, there would be a great temptation to bring back one of the most exciting players of his generation and one of the top ten to ever represent the Lilywhites.

Bale is a formidable player when fit and firing and his record for Real Madrid, who he steered to their fourth Champions League in five years in May with his jawdropping Kiev contribution, is better than his critics might have you believe.

Diario claim Real president Florentino Perez is looking to move Bale on in order to make room for Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard.

Legions of Spurs would love to see Bale make a romantic return to north London.

But he has blown out 29 candles on his birthday cake and Old Father Time appears to be catching up with him.

The Welshman started the season on fire, netting three goals in his opening three La Liga games following Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid, but he has not scored in the league since September 1.

In total, he has four goals in 13 games in all competitions this term, not a tally requisite with his apparent £300,000-a-week salary.

Levy has made the correct call. Bale is best left alone.
