Tottenham are firmly in the race to sign midfielder Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain in the January window due to the excellent relations between the clubs, according to Le Parisien.

The French newspaper claim PSG are making plans to sell the player this winter rather than when his contract expires at the end of the season in order to take their last opportunity to secure a fee for him.

Le Parisien report director Antero Henrique is working on the “project” and targeting a ‘friend’ who the club have good links with, naming Juventus and Tottenham as two potential destinations.

Good move for Tottenham?

Without a doubt. For a big-money fee, the midfield colossus would be a mighty fine signing. For a bargain price in January, it would be a sensational coup for Spurs as they scour the market for a central midfielder who can fill the boots of Mousa Dembele, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Rabiot undoubtedly has the power, class and all-round game to be a Premier League sensation. Standing at 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt), he is a key man in the PSG side that has dominated French football in recent years and also established themselves as a European big gun. Aged 23, he has extensive top-level experience and is approaching his peak years as a potential star of the world game.

Likely to happen?

It’s certainly a possibility. Tottenham have done recent business with the French champions, signing Serge Aurier in the summer of 2017 and then Lucas Moura last January. The issue could come done to the salary and package that Rabiot demands, as he is in a strong negotiating position for a mega salary given that the fee in January would be a small portion of his normal market value.
