Some Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to drool over centre-back Jan Vertonghen after their 1-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night. It was the Belgium international’s first game in a couple of months after a hamstring injury, and he put in a really solid return display for Spurs against the Serie A giants. Vertonghen is such a key member of this Tottenham defence with the balance that he brings alongside Alderweireld, and that was fully evident at Wembley. As some fans below point out, it looked like Vertonghen had hardly been away despite his injury lay-off, and that is the sign of a class player. He didn’t miss a beat at the back against Inter, who struggled to break Spurs down, and that bodes really well for Tottenham amid a tough schedule. Tottenham are really well stocked at the back with Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez as back ups, and that is a real area of strength for Mauricio Pochettino.
