A number of Tottenham Hotspur supporters have criticised right back Kieran Trippier for his performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side emerged from the clash at Molineux with all three points following a 3-2 win, but that wasn’t enough for some Spurs fans to ignore Trippier’s disappointing display.
The England international, on a reported £40,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], repeatedly failed to help youngster Juan Foyth at the back, and the Tottenham faithful were clearly discouraged by his performance.
COMMENTARY
This is the latest in what has been a series of worrying performances for Trippier since the new season started. We are yet to see the player who excelled in North London last year or at the World Cup in Russia with England this summer. He is still contributing well going forward, indeed he set up Lucas Moura’s goal with a picture-perfect cross, but the defensive side of his game has gone backwards this campaign. He has struggled repeatedly in recent weeks and his frailties were exposed once again against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. He needs to work on the defensive side of his game because it’s letting him down at the minute. He is a defender after all and, no matter how well he can cross a ball, defending should be his primary responsibility. If he is failing in that regard then he is not doing his job properly in the team. Having said all that, you can see exactly where the Spurs fans are coming from with their comments.

What game were you watching Ben? Trippier was a 2 at best. One assist doesn’t cover up a poor performance. Foyth was shafted for the 2nd peno and the 1st was trippier trying a nutmeg near his own box

Trippier’s had a nightmare today. Credit for the cross for Lucas’ goal but so many defensive errors.

Trippier a 6 lol as if
One good cross for a goal and followed it up by consistently showing his inability to defend
How does trippier get more than foyth ffs
Trippier a 3 for mine
One assist doesnt save him from being completely inept https://t.co/oRuy5AZgDX— Bryce plain old Bryce (@TruBluSpurs) November 4, 2018
Trippier really let Foyth hang out to dry today, holy moly.

Been saying the same thing for a while. Trippier is a defensive liability this season & Aurier has looked far improved in his rare outings so it's about time we saw change

?????? people are blind to Trippier!! Has a great cross, everything else is lacking. Both penalties were down to Trippier making errors leaving Foyth exposed!!

Clearly obvious that neither Kieran Trippier or Ben Davies are good enough to be first-choice full-backs for Tottenham Hotspur.
Both Danny Rose & Serge Aurier have been suffering with injuries which have stopped us seeing a potential real great partnership together.#THFC #COYS

Have to agree… Both have regressed and the attempted nutmeg was ridiculous
