Tottenham fans are starting to get very excited by Juan Foyth.

And, who could blame them? They’re right to, as the Argentine 20-year-old is a rising star who could go all the way to the very top.

Foyth was given the man-of-the-match award after making a precociously brilliant international debut in Argentina’s 2-0 friendly win against Mexico in the early hours of today (Saturday).

Used in a three-man defence in an experimental line-up, the centre-back ‘s lengthening list of admirers would have grown considerably.

Indeed, he has the skill-set and potential to be more than just an established Premier League star. Foyth can be a future Tottenham player-of-the-year (POTY) winner who will be the envy of all other clubs across the land and seas.

None of Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen, and Davinson Sanchez or Eric Dier, were as good as Foyth at the same age.

He does not turn 21 until January and by that age he could have established himself in the Tottenham defence that is set for a major shake-up in the next year given that Alderweireld and Vertonghen are out of contract at the end of the season.

Both will be in their 30s at that point and, although Spurs have options to extend both deals by 12 months, it’s likely at least one of them will leave,

Which makes it so essential that Tottenham forward plan well.

Mauricio Pochettino knows a decent centre-back when he sees one and has put his faith in Foyth in recent weeks following injuries to Vertonghen and Sanchez.

Following a calamitous Premier League debut against Wolves a fortnight ago, Foyth delivered a super-smooth display in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Confident on the ball, technically good, mobile and powerful, the youngster showed a strength of character and resilience that bodes well.

There is plenty of love out there from Tottenham fans, too, as they start to recognise the club have someone special on their hands.
