A section of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton after it was confirmed that number two goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has returned to Chelsea after breaking his leg.

Blackman’s injury leaves Marcelo Bielsa with Bailey Peacock-Farrell as the only senior goalkeeper at Elland Road and the club must not wait until January before they can sign reinforcements.

Some Leeds fans have scoped out Burnley number two Heaton as Blackman’s replacement, with one supporter urging owner Andrea Radrizzani to “go get him”.

COMMENTARY:

Heaton would be a superb signing for Leeds in the January transfer window and as one fan points out, he surely must be available having made just three appearances across all competitions this season. Burnley have three good goalkeepers on their books in Joe Hart, Nick Pope and Heaton, so the chances of the ex-Manchester United shot-stopper moving on are quite high. Heaton would not only replace Blackman but he would also be nailed on to be number one with Peacock-Farrell’s form not looking so impressive at the moment. It is a blow that the Whites will have to wait until January, but £35,000-a-week (Spotrac) Heaton would be a super addition and could really boost the club’s chances of winning promotion to the Premier League. If the Yorkshire giants do go up, Heaton would be a solid permanent signing to make then as he will be in the final year of his deal at Turf Moor at the end of the season. Leeds fans are absolutely spot on here.
