A section of international fans have raved over the display of Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in France’s 2-0 defeat to Holland in the UEFA Nations League on Friday evening.
Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum put his side ahead from close range before Memphis Depay slotted home a penalty, but it was Lloris who prevented a thrashing for France with a string of top saves.
France’s progression into the next round of the competition has now been compromised due to this loss, but some fans were still raving about the keeper, with many comments including “been amazing” and “been outstanding”.
COMMENTARY
The fans are right here – Lloris was one of the only French players who had a good game last night. It is pretty hard to name another player who was particularly impressive bar the keeper, which is shocking considering that France are the current World Champions, whereas Holland did not even qualify for the tournament this summer. They certainly did not look like world-beaters on Friday, and if it were not for the string of amazing saves, France would have got beaten by a lot more than two goals as one fan pointed out. However, his performances for Spurs have been pretty ropey all season, with his formed mixed to say the least due to a series of blunders, so club fans will no doubt want to see him replicate this type of form in important league matches. All in all, it was a superb performance from the Tottenham man – but it is a performance that may have be in vain if France do not end up qualifying from their group.

Hugo Lloris gets plenty of publicity when he makes a mistake…
Tonight for France – even in defeat – he’s been outstanding.

But without an amazing Lloris it could have been 6 or 7-0
