Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he is hugely disappointed by the situation regarding the club’s new stadium and that he is praying for good news in early 2019.

The Lilywhites were meant to have taken up residence in their newly built ground for the start of this season but delays to the construction have seen them remain at their temporary home of Wembley, while Stadium MK has also been used for cup matches.

Speaking about the scenario, Pochettino stated that he was feeling let down that his side were not playing in the new ground and was hoping for positive news over an early 2019 move in date.

He told journalist Ben Pearce: “We are so disappointed because we expect to play in 2018 and it should be ready for play before the end of the year.

“But that is not going to be possible and we need to wish and hope that in January or February we can move there.”

Opinion

Tottenham fans are not the only people in north London who appear to have grown frustrated with the progress of the ground’s development or the lack of information coming out about when it might be ready. It seems as though Daniel Levy does not want to make the same mistake he did earlier this year by claiming the ground would be ready much earlier than it actually will be, and while that might protect him and the club from further ridicule, it does nothing to keep the fans and staff at the club happy. Pochettino is obviously fed up of playing at Wembley, which is understandable when you want to be playing somewhere that feels like home, and it could well be another blow in determining the long term future of the Argentine manager. Only time will tell when the Lilywhites do actually make the move, but any longer than February and Levy could have one unhappy manager on his hands.
