Tottenham fans were handed a real boost following their 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Monday with the news that Dele Alli has penned a new six-year contract with the club.

The 22-year-old talent then returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday to register two assists in a 3-1 win over West Ham at the London Stadium and put Spurs through to a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against bitter rivals Arsenal.

And now, speaking about the reasons behind signing a new deal, Alli has revealed exactly why he decided to commit his long-term future to the club.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: “Poch is the one we’re working with all the time, it’s his philosophy that [is the reason] why we love playing here. When I think about signing, obviously Poch plays a big part in that.”

These are words which will bring a smile to the face of every Tottenham fan, with Alli clearly suggesting that manager Mauricio Pochettino is going nowhere fast.

Speculation has been rife over the past year or so about the Argentine mastermind making the move to Real Madrid, who have consistently made him their prime managerial target.

Those rumours have obviously increased in the last week or so with the sacking of Julen Lopetegui, and Pochettino’s obvious discontent with the current situation at Tottenham with regards to signings and the stadium.

When Alli signed this contract, some fans will have suspected that he was given guarantees about the future of Pochettino, with there being little chance he would sign a six-year deal without such assurances.

His latest comments seem to confirm the fact that Pochettino has little intention of leaving the club any time soon, and with the stadium eventually opening, the Argentine could well go on to become a club legend in N17.

Spurs fans can now rest easy about the immediate future of their magic man Pochettino, who is surely set to stay on despite this intense speculation.
