A section of Newcastle United fans took to Twitter to hail Ki sung-yong for his performance in their team’s 2-1 Premier League win against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The central midfielder was handed just his third league start of the season as he partnered Mohamed Diame in the absence of the injured Jonjo Shelvey.
Many Newcastle supporters were really impressed with the performance of the South Korea international, with comments including “take a bow”.

COMMENTARY:
Newcastle supporters feared the worse after learning of the absence of Shelvey, generally considered their team’s outstanding player. With Jamaal Lascelles and Yoshinori Muto also out with injuries sustained in the game against Watford, the Gallowgate faithful were expecting an afternoon to endure rather than enjoy. What a delicious surprise, then, that the side produced their best performance of the season in an open game in which chances came thick and fast. With Ki pulling the strings, Newcastle scored twice in the opening period and could have being 5-1 up at the break. Eddie Howe’s side came back in the second period, as many would have anticipated, but it was a hugely encouraging display from the much-changed hosts. Ki has barely been used by Newcastle since his summer arrival, but he must be given an extended run in the team now, whether Shelvey is available or not.
