Sweden manager Janne Andersson has eased Manchester United’s fears after defender Victor Lindelof came off at half time in his country’s 1-0 win over Turkey on Saturday.

The former Benfica man has been in terrific form for United this season, and so there was concern amongst the club’s fans after he failed to emerge for the second half.

However, Andersson has now allayed any worries over the 24-year-old: “Victor did not feel well but he finished the first half,” he told the Mirror.

When a player is substituted early in a game it’s often thought that an injury is to blame, so United supporters will be relieved to know that that’s not the case for Lindelof.

OPINION

It tells you everything you need to know about Lindelof’s improvement at Old Trafford this season that fans were so worried by his no show for the second half of Sweden’s game. He has become a vital part of Jose Mourinho’s team this campaign and is flourishing in a way that would have been unthinkable mere months ago. He wasn’t awful in his debut season in English football, but he did struggle to really make the impact that many people expected him to. However, he is now looking like the player that United bought, producing commanding performances at the heart of the Red Devils defence. Hopefully he’ll be able to overcome his illness in time to return for United after the international break, because losing him for any extended period of time would be a big blow for the club at this stage. That likely won’t be the case, but it’ll be interesting to see if he features in Sweden’s next game against Russia or not.
