Man United have only kept one clean sheet all season, against Fulham, and they lost the lead today against Bournemouth after just 11 minutes.

It was a thrilling start from Bournemouth but United’s defence looked terrible, and fans were quick to blame Chris Smalling.

He almost made another big blunder just minutes later, letting a harmless looking ball past him which almost caught out David de Gea at the back post.

United were lucky not to go further behind before they equalised through Anthony Martial – one of the few United players in top form – before Marcus Rashford won it for the visitors late on.

COMMENTARY
Manager Jose Mourinho wasn’t happy with what he was watching on the south coast early on today and neither were the fans. United’s defence, so often the foundation that Mourinho builds on, has completely gone this season. Smalling, in particular, looks shot of confidence and fans have had enough. One fan said forget about selling him, they should try and give Smalling away for free. Other fans were wondering why Eric Bailly was dropped after one bad game and yet Smalling keeps getting picked week-in, week-out. United fans would be happy not to see him start for United again judging by the reactions that were landing on Twitter today.

Here are the best reactions to Smalling from angry United fans:
