Man City beat Man United 3-1 on Sunday and Jamie Redknapp was blown away by the performance of David Silva.

The Man City midfielder put on a sublime performance at the Etihad and scored the opening goal of the game in the 12th minute.

It was his overall performance that Redknapp was impressed by though.

Talking on the Sky Sports coverage of the game (Sky Premier League, Sunday, 4pm) he said, “When I think of players like him I think of Iniesto and Xavi and his performance today was at that level.

“His game’s almost evolving and getting better because he knows by getting further up he pitch he can affect the game with a penetrating pass. His all round game was so good. He’s almost the manager on the pitch.

“He was involved in everything. He was everywhere. He ran the game from start to finish and he’s just getting better and better.”

OPINION
Man City are frighteningly good at the moment. Man United were 7/1 to beat them at the Etihad, the biggest price they’ve been to win a Premier League game since the league began. And, watching the game, the price was right. They were literally a gulf below Man City and the game must have made uncomfortable viewing for United fans. David Silva was at the heart of absolutely everything that City do. As Redknapp also said, he never has a bad game, and he was sublime again yesterday. Man City fans are lucky that they’ve got a player like that playing for them. Talking after the game Pep Guardiola said that Man United weren’t out of the title race, despite being 12 points back. The truth of the matter, looking at the two teams yesterday, is that they were never in it. Liverpool are the only team that can mount a realistic challenge and they don’t have David Silva.
