Manchester City are planning a multi-million pound investment on a new training ground based in the south in a bid to try and trump their Premier League rivals, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that Pep Guardiola’s side believe that with nearly half of their top flight counterparts based in the south that a new complex, which replicates the sort of training ground they have in Manchester on a smaller scale, will give them an advantage in their bid for glory.

It is stated that the big money development would include a hotel for players to use before games as well as a training pitch and increased security for the squad.

Opinion

When does Manchester City’s money become too much for the Premier League? Yes, having a state of the art training camp at home is a huge boost anyway, but is having a secondary complex to use on the other side of the country a step too far? City of course will argue that they are entitled to do what they like with their money so long as it stays within the rules of financial fair play, but it only furthers the already cavernous gap between the title holders and the rest of the league. Should there be a rule about it in a bid to try and ensure that clubs keep home advantage – which is not only the act of playing in front of the fans but the whole travelling aspect? The rest of the division, who simply cannot follow in the footsteps of City with their huge spending, would argue that it takes away one of the few advantages they have over the league leaders.
