Jamie Redknapp has hailed Trent Alexander-Arnold as a future superstar after his assured performance for England in their 3-0 friendly win over USA on Thursday night.

Alexander-Arnold, 20, scored his first international goal as Gareth Southgate’s side completed a comprehensive win ahead of their crucial Nations League encounter against Croatia on Sunday.

“He’s such a good footballer,” Redknapp told Sky Sports on Thursday night, as quoted by their website. “The way he passes the ball; a good player passes it with pace and purpose, because they know the quicker you get it to someone, the more time they’ve got. That’s what he does so well.

“It’s effortless for him. He might make mistakes, he might get in the wrong position now and then, but he’s got blistering pace.

“He’s got it all, this young man. From what I can gather, he’s got a level head, a good family around him. He’s going to go right to the top.”

OPINION

It is remarkable to think that Alexander-Arnold only turned 20 last month. He is already an established first teamer at Liverpool and scored his first international goal on his fifth appearance for England on Thursday. The right-back played second fiddle to Kieran Trippier over the summer at the World Cup, but it appears only a matter of time before the two players swap places in the England pecking order. The Tottenham man is a fine player and a real asset going forward, with his crossing ability on the run particularly impressive, but Alexander-Arnold is a huge talent who is destined for massive things. As Redknapp points out, he has a good head on his shoulders and an attitude which suggests he can make the most of his immense ability. He’s had some iffy matches for Liverpool this season, when things have not come off, but he is able to put it behind him and deliver the goods on the next occasion.
