Galatasaray have opened preliminary talks with Liverpool over a move to sign Divock Origi in the January window, according to a reliable journalist.

Bleacher Report correspondent Dean Jones has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Turkish big hitters “have made contact” with the Merseyside giants about taking the striker on loan.

The 26-times Belgium international has made just one appearance for Liverpool this season after spending the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Wolfsburg.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes. Barring an injury crisis up front, it has hard to seen Origi forcing his way back into the Liverpool side. He has been given just 11 minutes of senior action this season and might now be regretting his decision to reject a summer move to Wolves. With Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane the established forwards in Jurgen Klopp’s side, and Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri providing high quality cover, Origi has been given just a bit-part role and the writing appears to be on the wall in terms of his career. Getting him off the wage bill for the second half of the season makes sense, although the Merseysiders would surely prefer a permanent sale to a loan.

Likely to happen?

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool and Galatasaray can do a deal, but it is certainly likely Origi will head out of Anfield in the January window, either permanently or on loan. Another possibility is that he could go on a loan-to-buy, as Danny Ings did over the summer when he completed a move to Southampton that will become permanent next summer. Much depends upon a club being willing to meet the player’s salary demands.
