Everton winger Yannick Bolasie – currently on loan at Aston Villa – needs something “special” to pull off a shock u-turn at Goodison Park with his future at the Toffees looking bleak, according to journalist Adam Jones.

The Liverpool Echo journalist claimed in a column for the Birmingham Mail, focusing on the forgotten forward’s move to Villa on loan over the summer, that the 29-year-old has fallen to fifth choice in the pecking order under Marco Silva, hence why he was allowed to make the temporary switch to Villa Park, and that a turnaround for the Democratic Republic of Congo international would be a shock.

He wrote for the Birmingham Mail: “It would take something truly special for Bolasie to find a way back with the Blues, especially considering the ambition the club have for the near future and beyond.”

Opinion

This will not come as a surprise to anyone but it does not stop Bolasie from trying to force his way back into the first team setup at Goodison Park. Injuries decimated his chances of making an impact when Silva arrived, with his fitness well behind that of the other members of the squad and as such he was not really given an opportunity to prove his worth. His career at Villa has started pretty slowly as he looks to finally get back to a level of fitness that is to be expected of a Championship forward, and so with a busy festive schedule around the corner it is his chance to prove that Everton made a mistake letting him go. Still, with Richarlison and Bernard joining Theo Walcott and Ademola Lookman in the summer, it was quite evident Bolasie does not feature in the long term plans of the club and he can be expecting a permanent exit from Goodison in the next 12 months, either in January or over the summer.
