Tottenham midfield maestro Christian Eriksen has urged the club to sign Ajax duo Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs De Ligt as they look to go up for auction thanks to the actions of senior figure Marc Overmars, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that the sporting director of the Dutch outfit has turned down approaches from the likes of Barcelona and refuses to field any calls from interested parties, ruling out their exits in January.

Instead it is stated that Ajax will only sell in the summer and are looking to ignite a bidding war for the midfielder and defender, and that Eriksen, who knows the pair since childhood after coming through the ranks in the Netherlands, has urged his current side to make a move.

Opinion

De Ligt and de Jong are two of the most highly rated youngsters that the Netherlands have to offer right now and Overmars’ plans to ramp up interest – and therefore the price – will likely see their values skyrocket when they are eventually sold. Eriksen obviously has the inside knowledge about their abilities, having seen them develop from youth talents to senior stars and so Tottenham would be wise to heed his suggestion and make a move. Both seem destined for bright things and having already tasted success with numerous raids on Ajax in the shape of Eriksen himself, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, there might well be a good working relationship between the two clubs that can swing things to their advantage. Of course, convincing the duo to make the move to north London will be no easy feat, especially with the likes of Barcelona reportedly in the hunt, and so Spurs might have to call upon Eriksen to work his magic and connection to the pair to get it over the line.
