Chelsea could only manage a 0-0 draw with Everton on Sunday, but fans were blown away by Marcos Alonso.
The draw maintained Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten start to the season but they dropped down to third place in the Premier League and they’re now four points behind Man City at the top.
COMMENTARY
No man came closer to winning the game for Chelsea on Sunday than their marauding left-back Alonso. He grazed the post and also pulled out a brilliant save from Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal, but it wasn’t to be. He played more as a winger on Sunday than as a defender and he kept popping up in the important positions. Alonso has only scored once this season in 12 games, although he has added five assists, which is a surprisingly low return for how far advanced he plays. Last season he scored seven in 33 games. The game was frustrating for Chelsea fans. They dominated the game but were held by a disciplined display from the visitors and it’s games like this that they really need to win if they’re going to maintain a title challenge this season. Alonso can consider himself unlucky though, although some fans think he was lucky to still be on the pitch aftr a crunching tackle in the first-half.
Here are the best reactions to Alonso’s display on Sunday:

Alonso my player of the half, he's the only one thats gone close to scoring for us with the free-kick and that wonderful volley. Hazard has also been ok, won a couple of free-kicks in good positions #cfc #chelsea

Overall though Chelsea had better chances. Marco's Alonso with a left foot second only to Messi could have won it for us Twice and there was Willian sacrificing he unselfishness to footballing god's as well. Oh well well. #CFC #CHEEVE
