David Brooks looks like a typical Tottenham signing.

Technically gifted, creative, immensely talented and young – he turned 21 in July – the Bournemouth attacker is a player who has overcome plenty of bumps and scrapes along the way but is now clearly going places.

Could the next move for the Wales international who joined the Cherries for £11.5million over the summer be to north London and the swanky 62,000-seater stadium the club will eventually call home?

Sky Sports suggest in a detailed update today on Spurs’ January transfer plans that could very well be the case.

Brooks is named as one of seven players targeted by Tottenham ahead of the winter window, with the list also intriguingly including three of his Bournemouth teammates – Lewis Cook, Callum Wilson and Nathan Ake.

The right-sided attacker has all the makings of a perfect Mauricio Pochettino capture.

The Argentine has an excellent track record in developing and moulding players who can adapt to his team’s intense and attractive style of play.

Spurs tend to buy rising stars rather than established ones, as they don’t have the financial resources of their fellow Premier League big hitters.

They did not buy anyone in the summer, but in the previous one their signings included teenager Juan Foyth and early 20-somethings Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier.

Brooks looks the real deal after nailing down a starting place at Bournemouth – no mean feat given their attacking options – and scoring three goals from 12 league matches, 11 of which have been starts.

The player who was rejected by a string of clubs for being too star now looks a massive talent.
